When I think back to these overheard stories, I also remember the luminous joy of these women as they spoke of their daily dramas: a hilarious way of publicising their pain, as if it was the only option they had left to come to peace with the world that they were born into. Comedy, for me, despite how undervalued I am constantly told it is, represents an exquisite heritage, tightly bound to the most authentic roots of the Spanish people. A set of people that want to laugh at their own misfortunes, a population of which I feel like I belong, and which I want to see depicted - alongside myself - up on the stage, more so than any other intellectual consideration. For a theatre lover, there is nothing more gratifying than seeing the audience cry their eyes out, thanks to the unlimited joy that bursts from the seams of this comedy. Based on this certainty, I have decided to totally commit myself from here on in to the art of comedy, in my theatrical and cinematographic work. My two next projects, as both writer and director, will also be two crazy comedies.

Women who, even when suffering from genuine internal pain, had an infinite talent for transforming this into a strange, surrealistic and explosive joy of living. If I write comedies, it is because one day, one day, I would like to be like them.
