Raw RGB Data , Many of the image file formats have particularities which you need to keep in mind when using that format. This page deals with these special needs, and ways to improve results in those formats. GIF This format is extremely common, and has been around for so long that all image handling programs understand it. But only uses a limited number of colors a color table and only saves using 8 bit quality. However its built-in run-length encoding allows it to save images with only a few colors very efficiently. Plain text with thin lines suffers badly when saved as a transparent GIF image.

Virtual pixel support convenient access to pixels outside the image boundaries. Examples of ImageMagick Usage shows how to use ImageMagick from the command-line to accomplish any of these tasks and much more.
With Magick. News ImageMagick best practices strongly encourages you to configure a security policy that suits your local environment. We are utilizing a new community discussion service. We will continue to support the previous discourse server for a minimum of one year. We discovered a bug in the pseudo-random generator prior to ImageMagick 7. As a consequence of the fix, expect a different numerical sequence when seeding -seed.
Gray is non-linear grayscale and LinearGray is linear e. Learn how ImageMagick version 7 differs from previous versions with our porting guide. Before each ImageMagick release, we perform a comprehensive security assessment that includes memory error , thread data race detection, and continuous fuzzing to detect and prevent security vulnerabilities.
Want more performance from ImageMagick? Try these options: add more memory to your system, see the pixel cache ; add more cores to your system, see threads of execution support ; reduce lock contention with the tcmalloc memory allocation library; push large images to a solid-state drive, see large image support. If these options are prohibitive, you can reduce the quality of the image results.
If you disable HDRI , you use half the memory and instead of predominately floating point operations, you use the typically more efficient integer operations.
The tradeoff is reduced precision and you cannot process out of range pixel values e. If you build the Q8 non-HDRI version of ImageMagick, you again reduce the memory requirements in half-- and once again there is a tradeoff, even less precision and no out of range pixel values. Brightness and Contrast values apply changes to the input image. They are not absolute settings. A brightness or contrast value of zero means no change. Positive values increase the brightness or contrast and negative values decrease the brightness or contrast. The default is to apply the same transformation to all channels.
